What age is BrightKidCo training underwear for?
Most families start somewhere between 18 months and 4 years. Our sizes — S, M and L — cover that range. The size chart on each product page shows weight and height ranges so you can pick the right one.
If you order the wrong size, we exchange it for free. No need to send the original back.
How is this different from a pull-up?
Pull-ups are designed to keep your child completely dry. That's the problem — without feeling anything, the brain has no signal to connect to.
Our 3-Layer Body-Signal Learning System™ works the opposite way. The inner layer keeps a gentle wetness sensation against the skin so your kid can feel the signal. The middle layer absorbs enough to manage small accidents. The outer layer protects clothes and furniture from full leaks.
Pull-ups hide the signal. We let your child feel it.
Why not just use regular cotton underwear?
Regular underwear lets every accident soak straight through to clothes, couches and car seats. Most parents give up within a week — not because their kid wasn't learning, but because the daily cleanup is unsustainable.
Our training underwear holds the mess back enough to keep the process going, while still letting your child feel the signal that drives the learning.
How long until I see progress?
Most parents see the first signs of awareness in the first one to two weeks — a pause, a look down, an "uh-oh," sometimes a sentence. In a survey of 5,679 parents, 92% reported clearer body awareness within the first two weeks.
Every kid moves at their own pace though. Some take longer. That's exactly why we built the 30-day guarantee.
My kid had accidents in regular underwear and didn't seem to care. Will this be different?
This is one of the most common questions we get. The difference is sustained sensation.
With regular underwear, the wetness disappears fast — into pants, into the floor, gone before the brain has time to register it. The Body-Signal Learning Layer™ keeps the wetness against the skin longer, giving the connection more time to form.
We can't promise every kid will react on day one. We've built the product to give the signal a real chance to land.
How many pairs should I start with?
Most families start with one set of 6 to get through a normal laundry cycle. If you're doing intensive training and expecting multiple accidents a day at the start, two sets is more comfortable — you're not constantly running a wash load.
Can I use it at night?
It's suitable for light to moderate nighttime wetting. For heavier overnight wetters, we'd suggest keeping nighttime protection separate (pull-ups or overnight pants) and using BrightKidCo during the day when your child is awake and the learning signal can do its job.
How do I wash them?
Machine washable, cool or warm cycle, tumble low or air dry. They stay soft after hundreds of washes.
Poop accidents: if it's solid, shake into the toilet first. If it's messy, rinse under the toilet or in the sink before washing.
No fabric softener — it can build up on the layers over time.
What's the fabric? Is it safe for sensitive skin?
100% cotton outer, hypoallergenic, no PFAS, no harsh chemicals. Designed for daily wear against sensitive skin.
What if it doesn't work for us?
You're covered by our 30-Day Potty Trained Promise™. If you don't see clear progress within 30 days, email us with what happened and we'll refund you. Fewer than 1% of parents use it — but it's there.
What's the difference between this and a thinner pull-up?
Pull-ups are built to absorb everything and hide it from your child. We're built to do the opposite — let your kid feel just enough to learn, while protecting clothes and floors enough to keep going.
Mechanism, not thickness, is the difference.
How is this different from other training underwear we've tried?
Real talk: most "training underwear" on the market doesn't actually absorb anything. It's just slightly thicker cotton — same problem as regular underwear, with more bulk and a higher price. The wetness still soaks through in seconds, and you're still cleaning the couch by day two.
Our 3-Layer Body-Signal Learning System™ is engineered differently:
- Layer 1 — Body-Signal Layer. Soft cotton that keeps a controlled, sustained wetness sensation against the skin. Long enough for the signal to register — not so wet it feels punishing for a sensitive nervous system.
- Layer 2 — Smart Absorption Core. Absorbs up to 3x more than standard cotton underwear, so you can keep going through accidents instead of abandoning the attempt by day two.
- Layer 3 — Protective Outer Barrier. Contains the mess from clothes and furniture without killing the sensation underneath.
The point isn't thicker fabric. It's engineered sensation and containment, working together — built specifically for a nervous system that may need more signal, not less. That combination doesn't exist anywhere else in the training pants category.
Who designed this product?
This wasn't built in a marketing room. Three layers of input shaped what's in the package today:
A founder who needed it. Mary started BrightKidCo as a mom of three, after years of looking for training underwear that worked for kids whose brains needed more time to connect body signals to potty timing.
Clinical and behavioral input from people who spend their careers on this question:
Real-world testing. Observed with 672 children across the autism spectrum, ages 1 to 6, during product development.
We didn't shortcut this. We built it with people whose careers are spent on the exact question parents in this community are asking.
My child doesn't seem to notice when he's wet. Will this still work?
This is the question we get most from autism parents — and the one we want to answer carefully.
Plain underwear gives a quick wetness sensation that disappears into clothes within seconds. For a child whose interoceptive signals are muted, that brief signal often isn't enough to register. The Body-Signal Learning Layer™ keeps the wetness localized against the skin for longer — more sustained contact for a nervous system that may need more time and more signal to notice.
We can't guarantee your child will notice on day one. What we can say: the product is designed to give the signal a better chance of landing than anything else they've worn.
We tried regular underwear and it just created more laundry. Why would this be different?
Real talk: if regular underwear didn't seem to teach anything, it wasn't necessarily because feeling wet doesn't work for your kid. It may have been because regular underwear creates so much mess so fast that families abandon the attempt within days — before the learning has a chance to repeat.
We built containment into our underwear so you can keep going for weeks, not days. That's the gap between "pull-up paralysis" and "underwear chaos."
Will this overwhelm my sensory-sensitive child?
The wetness sensation is gentle, not soaking. The fabric is 100% cotton, soft, hypoallergenic. No harsh smells, no PFAS.
We can't promise every child will tolerate it — sensory profiles are individual, and support levels don't predict tactile tolerance. What helps: introduce the underwear during a calm moment, not in the middle of an active training push, so your kid can get used to how it feels first.
What is the Calm Progress Guarantee?
It's our 60-day version, built for autism families specifically. If after 60 days potty learning doesn't feel calmer, more manageable, or clearly moving in the right direction, email us for a full refund.
No pressure to send the product back. No interrogation about what happened. Calm is the word — for you and your kid.
Does this replace ABA, OT, or our therapist's protocol?
No. We're not a therapy and we don't want to be. Our underwear is a tool that sits alongside whatever sensory or behavioral work you're already doing.
Many of our families use it as the missing piece — the physical sensation tool that protocols and reward charts can't replicate. If your BCBA or OT wants to look at the product first, email us — we'll send the mechanism details.
My kid is older — 5, 6, 7. Is this still right for us?
Yes. The largest size fits kids well into the early elementary years. Late starts are common in the autism community, and the product wasn't designed around an age — it was designed around a process.
Check the size chart for fit. If you're unsure, message us with your child's height and weight and we'll help you choose.
What if my child regresses or refuses to wear them?
Regression is real and expected. Most autism parents in our community have lived through it.
If your kid refuses the underwear, don't force it. Pause, give it time, reintroduce calmly later. The 60-day window exists because progress in this space is not linear.
Will the seams or tags bother my child?
Soft 100% cotton inner layer, no scratchy tags inside the waistband, no rough seams against the skin. Hypoallergenic, no PFAS, no harsh dyes.
We can't promise every kid's tactile profile will accept it — sensory tolerance is individual, and support level doesn't predict it. What helps: introduce the underwear during a calm moment first, let your child wear it for short periods at home before any active training. If after the 60-day window it isn't working, you're covered by the Calm Progress Guarantee.
What sizes are available?
Three sizes: S, M and L. The size chart on the product page shows weight and height ranges. Free exchange if you order the wrong size.
Can I use it at night?
For light to moderate nighttime wetting, yes. For heavier overnight wetters, daytime is where the learning signal does its work — we recommend keeping separate nighttime protection while you build daytime awareness.
